PV Does DIY// Glitter Makeup Brushes

August 31, 2015
Welcome to this weeks edition of our DIY blog series. This week, intern Mariah found a fun tutorial to bring more excitement to your everyday makeup brush. Read below to see her project and as always, feel free to join us in our DIY adventures.
As a part of “PV Does DIY,” I found a really fun and cute DIY on Pinterest by blogger Cosmetic Obsession that everyone NEEDS to try! Loving all things girly at Pale Violet it’s only necessary that we add some glittery-glam to our everyday beauty essentials. Everyone’s morning makeup routine needs a little pop of fun and this DIY will add excitement and make mornings a time to look forward to!
Since our office is located in Downtown LA, there were plenty of places to grab supplies. I decided to take a walk to Moskatels to source my supplies for this project. This craft store has so many products I had a fun time walking around and looking at everything. I decided to pick up some silver glitter because it pairs so perfectly with our Three Floor Matchmade Top! The original blog post only had half of each brush glittered, but I pushed it to the next level by adding my own twist and glittering the whole thing. Read below to see all the supplies I picked up from the craft store and the steps I took to finish my adorable new brushes. Grab a group of friends and recreate this simple project just like I did!
Supplies
-Mod Podge (Make sure it’s the GLOSSY one!)
-Your favorite colored glitter
-Foam Brush
-Plain colored makeup brushes

Steps
  • First, you want to make sure the item is clean, so you can either wash the item with soap and water or wipe it down with a damp cloth. Then you want to make sure the object is completely dry.
  • Next, you want to apply a layer of Mod Podge over the object with your foam brush
  • After, you want to sprinkle the glitter on top of it and make sure all of the Mod Podge is covered then let the layer dry. It’s better to sprinkle the glitter over as opposed to mixing the glitter with Mod Podge because it leaves a smoother finish.
  • Unless you want the glitter to be really opaque, then apply another layer of Mod Podge over the first one and sprinkle glitter all over it again and let dry.
  • Once the second layer is dried, apply another layer of Mod Podge over the glitter and let dry. Doing this seals the glitter so it doesn’t fall off as your using your makeup brushes. It also keeps a nice glittery finish if you used the glossy Mod Podge.
  • Now you want to let it dry for a few hours before using it
  • Once it’s completely dry, you can now show off your new sparkly beauty essentials!
